The best way to get rid of belly fat is to reduce excess calories, but not all calories are created equal and not all foods need to be reduced. For example, increasing the amount of soluble fiber you consume is a good way to flatten your belly, says Jessica Crandall, RDN, CEO of VitalRD. Foods rich in soluble fiber include oats, nuts, beans and berries. You should aim for 25-35 grams per day, especially if you have diabetes. Soluble fiber controls your blood sugar much better than carbohydrates, such as a piece of bread, which can cause your blood sugar to rise and then fall. Bananas have a bad (too carby!) reputation as a healthy food, but they are actually a good source of nutrients. The potassium in bananas, in particular, can help flush extra fluids from your system. “If you carry too much water, such as if you ate a lot of salty foods the night before, foods high in potassium can help you get rid of that water weight,” Crandall says. These home remedies can also help you lose belly fat.
